Conflict prevention and human safety in La Francophonie
 |
The ministerial conference on conflict prevention and human safety organized by La Francophonie opened today in Saint Boniface, Manitoba. The Minister of International Relations, Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, will represent Québec at the conference, chaired by the secretary general of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Abdou Diouf.
The objectives of the meeting include highlighting the actions of La Francophonie in the field of conflict prevention, and contributing to the ongoing debate on human safety. The conference is a complementary step to the Bamako Declaration, adopted at the international symposium of La Francophonie on democratic practices, rights and freedoms. The Declaration is intended to improve the effective implementation of conflict resolution programs in La Francophonie.
Since 1971, La Francophonie has held 18 ministerial conferences on various themes, including the environment, women and culture. The most recent was held in 2003 in Rabat, Morocco, and focused on the information-based society.
