 Access to information

The Ministère des Relations internationales is subject to the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information (In French only). The Act grants access to documents held by public bodies to individuals who request it and ensures that the personal information held by these bodies is protected.

To ensure compliance with the law, a person in charge has been designated in each government department. These individuals are responsible for ensuring that their respective departments carry out their duties in connection with access to information and the protection of personal information.

Making an access to information request

Requests for access to information or to any other materials covered by the Act must be submitted in writing and must be sufficiently precise to enable the department to locate the document(s) in question. Requests may also be made verbally; however, only decisions on written requests may be submitted for review to the Access to Information Commission (CAI).
