Québec’s
International Policy: Working in
Concert
In May 2006, the
Ministère des Relations
internationales unveiled Québec’s
new International Policy. Subtitled
Working in Concert, the
policy is intended to provide Québec
with timely strategies that will
enable it to meet the challenges of
a changing global context. In the
new world order, characterized by
the rise of emerging economies,
Québec is asserting its desire to
pursue vigorous, concerted and
multilateral international
initiatives in accordance with its
needs.
Five objectives guide Québec’s
initiatives:
The measures set out in the
2009–2014 Action Plan made public on
May 25, 2009, by Minister of
International Relations Pierre
Arcand are a continuation of the
work begun under the 2006–2009
Action Plan. These measures, which
were drafted by government
ministries and organizations, take
into account the rapidly changing
global context, the globalization of
trade, the current economic
situation, and what all this means
for Québec.
Annual status reports are
prepared describing the progress of
work required to carry out the
measures and initiatives described
in the Action Plan.
