Relations between Québec and
countries in the Americas take place
against a backdrop of both
continental integration and
globalization. Québec’s political,
economic, institutional, and
cultural policies are therefore
geared towards promoting trade,
cooperation in education, scientific
and technological partnerships, and
Québec culture. Among South American
countries, Québec is active mainly
in Brazil, where it opened the
Québec Government Ofiice in São
Paulo in March 2008, and in Chili,
where it has had a presence in
Santiago since 1999. In the West
Indies Québec pays particular
attention to Haiti, which receives a
significant share of the resources
it dedicates to international
solidarity.
